Copper product forms
Ore mass, copper contained in concentrate, cathode, anode and payable metal describe different measures.
Definitions
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Ore mass | The mass of mined material, including material other than copper. |
| Contained copper | Copper content stated for a defined feed or product stream. |
| Anode, cathode and payable metal | Product or commercial measures whose definitions and boundaries must be read from the source. |
Mechanical rules
| If | Then |
|---|---|
| Product form or production stage differs. | Do not compare or add the values as if they were one measure. |
| A source reports ore mass but another reports copper content. | Keep the figures separate unless a reviewed conversion with stated assumptions exists. |
| A basis is missing. | Leave the basis unresolved rather than infer it from nearby wording. |
Common misreadings
- Equal tonne units do not make ore, concentrate and refined metal interchangeable.
- Successive product stages may describe the same material as it moves through processing.
Examples from cleared public records
Separate product and stage records: The records retain their source-defined product and stage; they are not added together.
